Verdi Nelson, whose spirited story was featured in the book, was the special guest of honor as over two hundred friends and family celebrated 100 years of a very spirited journey. The stories overflowed and the guests enjoyed coffee and cake with Verdi. She had looked forward to this day for a long time.

You may even have seen her featured on the nightly news as they shared segments of the life of this remarkable and spunky woman who was celebrating her fourth actual birthday as a leap-year baby. Verdi's signature had been her large collection of high heels, which she had to give up wearing only recently.

Signed copies of the The Fortunate Four & Other Journeys of the Heart were made available for purchase by the author, and a display of the books was also included in this news segment.

Happy Birthday, Verdi!

Followup note: Verdi passed away on May 6, 2006, at age 102. We honor her life well lived and the spirit/humor with which she shared her stories.

In The Fortunate Four & Other Journeys of the Heart, Annette was featured on the book cover wearing shorts while sitting on the old Studebacher that took the "Fortunate Four" across the country. Annette now has turned 90 years old. She celebrated her long, rewarding journey with family and friends gathered from across the country at the Officers' Club at Fort Snelling. It was also an opportunity to celebrate her wedding anniversary with Orem. What a wonderful afternoon/evening.
